Many communities and organizations have successfully used bioengineered mats to preserve their local creeks. Recently Conservation Halton in partnership with Field Stream and Rescue Team carried out mat placement for Grindstone Creek at Joe Sam’s Park in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. They used discarded Christmas Trees, that were collected as part of tree drives, to create the mats. These trees are native to Ontario and provide the added benefit of diversion of waste from landfills.
